2014 Focus ST. 164 mile trip from McHenry, MD to Olney, MD. I reset all trip parameters right after I filled up the tank in McHenry.

It was 90% mountain highway driving so there was a lot of downhill (but also uphill) driving. I tried to draft as much as I could, but there wasn't that much traffic.

Mountain highway driving does yield interesting MPG figures. I spent a whole day enjoying mid to high rpms in 2/3/4 gears through twisty mountain roads and yet I still got 27 mpg when epa says I should be getting 27 mpg on ideal highway conditions.

At highway speeds in 6th gear, I see no reason to consider this unbelievable. Even going uphill at 50-70mph is way more efficient than going uphill at say 5-30mph. Not bad at all. Definitely agreeable that it's better than say a hybrid, in terms of fun factor..

Mostly because of the EPA claims. Also because before I broke 12K on the odometer, I struggled to average 28 MPG on the highway.

Maybe this will convince my dad that the ST's mileage isn't much worse than his SE's... He keeps pining for an ST, but is worried he'll get worse mileage. If he'd stop flooring it everywhere to hear his exhaust he'd get better mileage, hehe.

McHenry, eh? I love going there. Deep Creek is gorgeous, a bit cold, but beautiful. Great mileage btw.

Thanks. It was a great trip. The weather was unusually warm for October, but word is that it's supposed to snow this coming Saturday.

Yep. My workplace is about 40 miles away from McHenry, down the mountain a little ways, though it gets about equivalent weather to Garrett County, since it's right at the border. Saturday is calling for a high of 37 and a low of 26, with snow and rain mixed. Definitely going to be chilly. It was gorgeous out yesterday, and quite warm today as well, so it's gonna be a bit of a shock. I just pray that it doesn't get as cold this winter as it did last year. That was brutal.
